In Crystal Rift i giocatori devono muoversi un passo alla volta, su una griglia suddivisa in vari quadrati, ed esplorare insidiosi dungeon. Lo scopo è di salvare la pelle, destreggiandosi fra ogni sorta di trappole ed enigmi. Praticamente una sorta di Legend of Grimrock incentrato più sull’esplorazione che sui combattimenti.

Ad aumentare il coinvolgimento ci pensa l’atmosfera horror ed elementi che non spezzano l’immersione. I documenti trovati nei dungeon, per esempio, saranno raccolti dal protagonista e avvicinati alla telecamera, in modo che il giocatore possa leggerli senza dover ricorrere a un menu.
