Alimentata dal motore Essence Engine 3.0, la serie Company of Heroes 2 si avvale di alcune meccaniche uniche, a vantaggio dei giocatori particolarmente attenti. Dal sistema TrueSight, che emula la visuale delle unità, al sistema di copertura, che incoraggia il piazzamento attento delle unità stesse (per non parlare dell’approccio combinato delle armi e del gameplay con hard counter e soft counter che ti costringerà a pensarci due volte prima di tentare di distruggere un carro armato con una semplice squadra di fucilieri), ogni gioco costringe continuamente i giocatori a dover effettuare significative scelte tattiche che possono cambiare il corso della guerra.

Company of Heroes 2: Master Collection: al suo interno sono presenti il titolo originale e tutti i contenuti scaricabili rilasciati nei mesi successivi al suo lancio, tra cui anche le espansioni The Western Front Armies, Ardennes Assault e The British Forces.
